Polk County Fire District No.1 Members
Pay Tribute to Local Fallen Hero

September 3, 2009

On Thursday, September 3, 2009, members of the Polk
County Fire District No.1 hoisted a large American flag
over the center of Monmouth Street with Ladder 91 and
then lined the street in front of Station 90 to display full
honors and pay tribute to a local soldier, Spc. Taylor D.
Marks, age 19, who, on August 28th, was killed in action
in Iraq.

Flags were displayed on homes and businesses along
a route through Monmouth and Independence as a
procession led by state and local law enforcement
vehicles and members of the Patriot Guard Riders
and Road Brother motorcycle club escorted Spc.
Marks home, past his alma mater Central High
School and to Green Villa Barn, where a public
service was held on Friday the 4th.

Polk County Fire District No. 1 members attended
the public service and again displayed the American
flag outside the Green Villa Barn in honor of
Spc. Taylor. After the public service, a caravan of
law enforcement vehicles, military personnel and Harley Davison motorcycles again escorted Spc. Taylor to his final resting place in the Veterans cemetery in Portland, OR.
