DESPITE FALLING SHORT OF GOAL, FIRE FIGHTERS EXPERIENCE ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY ASSOCIATION FILL THE BOOT CAMPAIGN
Polk County Professional Firefighters teamed up with Polk County Fire District No.1 for another successful Fill-the-Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)

In their fifth annual street side collection
campaign at the corner of Highway 99 and
Main Street in Monmouth, Polk County Fire
Fighters and Polk County Fire District No.1
collected $6,742.77 in two days to assist
those affected by muscular dystrophy. The
fund raiser, which kicked off the afternoon
of Friday, September 17th, was on track to
put Polk County Fire District No.1 firefighters
within reach of their $10,000 goal. Despite
increased traffic flow on the morning of
Saturday the 18th, a steady rain hampered
motorists’ enthusiasm to roll down their
windows and drop loose change and cash
into the firefighters’ boots. Though
falling short of this year’s goal, the
fundraiser was still a success – a success
that brings the total raised by Polk County
Fire District No.1 efforts to over $36,000
over the past five years.

Proceeds raised during the campaign will
help support MDA services and research
programs, including MDA’s outpatient
clinics for people with one of the more
than 40 neuromuscular diseases including
Lou Gehrig’s disease or ALS. Money also
helps send children affected by
neuromuscular diseases
to summer camps.

Polk County Fire District No. 1 firefighters
wish to express their heartfelt appreciation
to the citizens and visitors of Polk County
who graciously donated their money for
this most worthy cause.
